A patent agent, like a patent attorney, represents clients before the Unites States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Patent agents and patent attorneys pass the same USPTO exam in order to be registered to practice before the USPTO. A patent attorney, unlike a patent agent, may practice law in addition to representing clients to the USPTO and may, for example, represent a client during litigation and prepare licensing agreements.
